Wedding Rings

The wedding band traditionally goes on the left-hand ring finger first, nearest the heart, with the engagement ring stacking on top. Again, this practice is not law, and the rings can be arranged in any way that is most comfortable and aesthetically pleasing to you, including wearing the rings on separate fingers.

The Western traditions of wedding rings can be traced to ancient Rome and Greece, and were first associated with the marital dowry and later with a promise of fidelity.

Based on that background, the wedding ring symbolizes marital commitment, and the whole idea came from pagan mythology and superstition. There is no direct mention of wedding rings in the Holy Bible, which means that it is not necessarily a Christian requirement but a commonly practiced tradition.

While wedding rings originated from Paganism, they are widely accepted in the Christian religion.
